Our Story

Project: Human City is founded on “Human” policies that emphasize wealth circulation and value optimization centered around remediating the ecological impact of human growth thus far and replacing extractive industries with regenerative ones.

Most of us make up the “general public,” most of us share common characteristics that make us part of the general public; what we all share, is the power to operate our society, but the systems in place and makes our say seem meaningless, our place in society seem fragile and real change seems impossible.

Across the world, in various political systems, the real public interest is often overlooked or at best co-opted by an elite class. Progress is slowed to maximize margins and wealth hoarding at the cost of human lives and liberties, biodiversity and planetary viability.

While studying Urban Planning at Ryerson University, James felt that the best way he could do the planner’s job of acting in the public interest in the planning process was to change the process altogether and put the power into the hands of the public.

In order to achieve this change,

Project: Human City was formed!

The organization was created to merge politics, day to day life and human connection to a new paradigm, in order to transition to this new level the organization devised a simple set of principles:

Maximize the social offering of the organization so that had the
resources to operate and grow while developing additional value

Create and foster social learning about the decision making process and increase the public’s ability to

meaningfully participate.

To do this P:HC choose to develop mobile app and digital ecosystems as it’s primary service, it allows P:HC and Member Municipalities to see who is contributing, so it can seek to match people who that aren’t online with more effective capacity use, like in-person workshops, planning consultation meetings, and free learning programs offered both in app and on our website.

Create accountability and transparency in the decision making process and community organization

To accomplish this the Human City Program and public facing mobile app creates a direct connection between government officials and the people they represent for real-time feedback, increased opportunity for conversation and collaboration as well as validation for pilot initiatives and new models.

Operate to dissolve into the norm

Helping people shouldn’t be an industry, P:HC is designed to:

- require only one fundraising campaign

- when fully funded, it is estimated to take 10 years to achieve its global goals

- a key focus is to no longer require a board in 25 years and replace human governance altogether in 35 years.

Developing a flexible long term strategy with a clear vision of the world we want to create was key to the organization.

New problems may arise in the interim but the set of problems

highlighted in our Project Streams are solvable in less than an average lifetime.

with the ultimate goal of creating a dynamic system that better

conformed to the dynamic nature of our lives and the vastly different ways in which we experience life,

so that we can live beyond it.

We choose to build mobile apps because people often don’t participate in local government or politics in general due to time restraints, so delivering our services this way promised to reach people without vastly changing their day to day routines. People create value and together we Project: Human City wants to create informed communities so people can make choices with all the available information and see the patterns of cause and effect for themselves.

Our goal is to optimize the organization of humans and resources to achieve the greatest amount of equitable efficiency and sustainable quality of life possible,

we believe every plan can be made better and every person is so much more than they know it.

We go about it by focusing on
how we operate,

In order to achieve our beliefs in reality we start by creating systems that work for people. It means being mindful of the state in which we are currently fixed and open to how our decisions shape the lives of those around us.

Much of our world is unsteady, to be even able to read this a

privilege to 56% of the global population.

We need commonplace,

we need universal levels and standards that are prohibitive and

not restrictive.

We want to make the ways in which we experience group authority and government to be universally free and only aimed at improving equity and impact.

We believe that a wide range of human goods should be available to everyone for free or at a low cost, made at a high quality and that value should be circulated as much as needed, not as much a possible. We believe the world works better when we all participate and take care of each other with abundance, instead of competition and scarcity tactics, this is when we can create our greatest innovations and human accomplishments.
